The Great War Ends

Germany signed the armistice agreement on this day in 1918 in a railroad car in the forest of Compiegne in France.

The two minute silence commemorates the official end to fighting on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month 1918.

The war officially ends on 28 June 1919 with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.
